Hi!

This past Saturday, three hurdy gurdy players and two friends put on a 50-minute hurdy gurdy presentation at the University of Chicago Folk Festival.

This year was our third show-and-tell for the Festival. We had about 50 people in the audience. They listened with interest as we described the instrument, its history and playing styles. We played about a dozen tunes; some solo, some as a group, and some with accompaniment by accordion, singing, guitar, and penny whistle.

During the presentation, we passed around a booklet with photos and descriptions of hurdy gurdies, and handed out business cards with links to the Google hurdy gurdy list and the Chicago area hurdy gurdy list.

We finished with questions and answers, and then a "meet the instruments up close" session. The presentation was well received, and we hope to be invited back again.

Thanks to everybody who participated!

Very best regards,

-Gary P. (in rural northern Illinois near Marengo, between Elgin and Rockford IL)
