Greetings Red Hat Partners, We are pleased to announce a change in the Red Hat Hardware Certification policy regarding CPUs.
Starting today, where multiple CPUs are available within a model, and those CPUs require different update releases of RHEL for support, the partner can now choose which of these update releases the certification will be published with. The policy guide has been updated to reflect this change: https://access.redhat.com/documentation/en-us/red_hat_enterprise_linux_hardware_certification/1.0/html-single/program_policy_guide/ A Red Hat knowledgebase entry will be added to a certification if the release of the operating system selected for publication is older than the update release that covers all CPUs offered in the model. For example, if a system is offered with one CPU that was enabled in RHEL 7.1 and an additional CPU that requires RHEL 7.2 for support, if RHEL 7.1 is chosen as the published update release, a knowledgebase entry will be required explaining that 7.2 is necessary to support the other CPU. If the system is published as being certified on RHEL 7.2, that release covers both CPUs and no knowledgebase entry is necessary. This publication change mimics the effect of a supplemental certification; wherein, the original release is posted as certified for one update release and a CPU added to the system in a supplemental certification requires a later update release. As such, this change should provide customers with a broader choice of certified products without creating additional confusion or unmet expectations. Please note that the testing requirements are not affected by this publication change. If you have any questions or comments about this policy change, or any other questions, please contact your engineering account manager, engineering partner manager, or Red Hat support for assistance.
