multitrack recording

I'd like to get into recording stuff programmed on my rm1x in seperate
tracks, so that I can apply different fx to each track/whatever. I'm a
total novice at this, though and have little idea where to even start. I'm
thinking that software would be the way to go. Can someone point me in the
right general direction?
