Assign instruments

Help needed. I guess I'm in the very basic here.
1. When loading songs sequenced in cakewalk (.mid format), the tracks on
the Rm1x do not have instruments assigned. Even after assingning them
manually the Rm1x still will wipe them off everytime the play button is
pressed.
2. I want to have some of the tracks on the Rm1x played by a Korg x5dr.
Is there a way to assign the instruments on the Korg straight from the
Rm1x ? ( I mean without doing it manually on the Korg itself).
