Hi - I currently do a montly gig in San Diego CA. where the RM1x is the
brain of my rig. I share the bill with another electronic act or two and
a DJ.
So far, I've done 3 shows - and all have gone over well - but I've done
LOADS of preperation. I 'performed' my set at home and live over the Web
about 12 times before I took it to a club.
My Rig:
Tascam 20 ch mixer
Opcode Studio 64 - midi patchbay (nic)
Alesis Microverb
dbx - 266XL compressor/gate
Akai S2000 - maxed RAM + 8-out ext. card
EMU Planet Phat
an old Yamaha keyboard (controller)
EMU launchpad - sliders, buttons - midi controller
Korg Prophecy
American DJ CDDJ player - w/ 10 live memory btns and looping on the fly
Digitech delay/2 sec sampler pedal
Yamaha RM1x
2 keyboard stands
a Zip drive
- and sometimes: 2 turntables and a DJ mixer
(saving for a Nova...)
It takes me 45 min to set this all up.
I have Mp3s of a recent show (9-23-99) at mp3.com:

Or, I have several shows online as RealAudio strams:

I perform solo, although I'm looking to get some rotating musicians
going on - I'd like to mix in a sax player - or even a drummer or bass
player.
My shows are improvised - I plan out the movements of the different
pieces, but I always leave the flow and duration open for interpretation
- which the RM1x does very well.
I do think a person could entertain a bunch of people with just this box
- but to make it really dynamic and punchy - you need other gear. Also,
everyone needs a compressor - I'm convinced of this - go get one now. :)
Hasta,
Sonic Wallpaper
