im not sitting in front of my rm1x but cant you audition sounds by holding
down the shift key and the hitting a key on the keyboard at the same time?

Don't think you can. This is one of the few things about the RM1x that
annoys me.

I haven't tried split. I use "copy phrase", which copies the actual
notes into a new phrase. If you use "copy track", then you will use the
same phrase on more than one track (the note data will be connected).
