I hate the whole idea of "phrases" in the Yamaha sequencers. It seems
some people like the idea but it just totally screws me up and slows
me down.

Can anyone explain to me how to do the following?

1.) Record a pattern(section? whatever Yamaha calls it).
2.) Copy that pattern to another pattern
3.) Change things in the 2nd pattern(a copy of the first pattern) and
NOT HAVE THE FIRST PATTERN CHANGE TOO???

I seem to remember doing this in the past but I can't get it now. It
seems that since the RM1x converts all your stuff to phrases, the
second pattern just has pointers to the first patterns phrases and if
you change the second pattern you change the first too!?

Any advice on this?

Also, how do I truncate a pattern? Last night I had a pattern set to
4 measures but after recording some I just wanted to make it 1 measure.
The sequencer allowed me to change the length(on the main screen) to
1 measure but it still played all four.

I can't seem to find a "truncate" job. What I want to do is to be able
to find a job that does something like:

Current Length: 4 measures New Length: 1 measure

Any help would be appreciated...
