Thx, that gives me more conga samples. I'm a bit confused as to what the Lo and Hi are? At first, I thought they might be equivalent to "hand" (or "palm heel"?) and "fingers", but they are too loud. I guess they are the "open" tone and maybe a "rim-shot" (hitting the edge with fingertips?). OK, but then there is no "bass" (hitting the centre with the open palm) tone that I can tell. None of them seem low enough, compared to the others.
No, after listening to them again, and playing on real congas (the quinto), I guess Hi is "open" tone and Lo is "bass" tone. There is nothing exactly like "hand" or "fingers", which I guess are just soft "Lo mute" kinda sounds? I just tried the "bass" tone on my (real) quinto, and tried muffling it. Sounds more or less the same, since I guess the bass tone really comes from the resonance of the drum shell, not the skin. I'm confused again. Now, I'm thinking that "hand" is probably represented by Lo (and when I play my congas sometimes I emphasize "hand" as a pulse kinda "bass" tone, not just marking time) and "fingers" then is probably "Lo mute". I've used the velocity control to reduce the Lo to about 1/2 and that sounds kinda OK, with a tumbao moderno (con la marcha). Comments or suggestions anyone? Since there are more conga2 samples, that must mean conga2 = quinto, the higher pitched, "male" soloing drum? Leaves conga1 to be the conga, since it is not low enough for tumba. As I mentioned, I'm trying to relate these samples/tones to playing them on real congas. Juhan p.s. Anyone have any more conga samples? esp. "hand", "fingers", "bass", and samples for tumba.
