First, everyone complains when multiple fonts with different
visual characteristics are used to display characters in on block
of text. However, when there is not a font that has all the
characters it is far better to use multiple fonts that are
at least readable than to have blanks, boxes, or question
marks. Tex? with que?tion ?arks is ha?d to rea?.
Regarding the use of Chinese fonts to display Japanese or
Japanese fonts to display Chinese: mozilla users tell me that
displaying Chinese with Japanese fonts (regardless of whether
it is a single or multiple font) looks bad and likewise that
displaying Japanese with Chinese fonts (regardless of whether
it is a single or multiple font) looks bad.
