In fact I fixed my setup by moving the layout definition from /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xkb/symbols to /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xkb/symbols/pc So it seems I was bitten by XFree86 becoming more strict. Anyway this made me re-discover for two days the pain of using XFree86 default fr keyboard. Therefore I'm still motivated to get the posted layout merged. It follows very closely the keyboards one can find in French stores, with smart <alt-gr> behaviour (the symbols accessed via alt-gr and for the most part not printed on the keys) and replaces the legacy square key [ 2/~ ] nobody ever uses with a [ OE/oe / ] one (giving access to precious symbols that were not available on typewriters ; in fact oe was important enough in French to be included in the iso8859-1 iso8859-15 change). Since not everyone has correct iso8859-15 support (needed for euro, OE, oe) it should probably not replace the existing fr layout but be provided as a modern alternative. What would it take to get this layout merged ? Regards, -- Nicolas Mailhot
