A diet pill or weight lose drug refers to all pharmacological agents that
reduce or control a person's weight.

These drugs alter one of the fundamental mechanisms of the body, which is
weight regulation. This happens by either altering appetite, metabolism or the
absorption of calories.

Most people try them and if there is no positve result discontinue them.
Because of the potential side effects it should only be prescribed in the event
of obesity where maybe the benefits could outweigh the risks.

Diet pills operate through one or more of the following routes:

Suppression of the appetite:

Catecholamines and there derivatives are the main weapons used for this. Drugs
blocking the cannabiniod receptors may be the future strategy for appetite
suppression.

Increase in the body's metabolism

Interference with the body's ability to absorb diffent nutrients in food.

Anorexics are intended to suppress the appetite, but most drugs in this
category tend to act like stimulants.

Here are the best diet pills on the market:

Orlistat:

This diet pill reduces intestinal fat absorption by inhibiting pancreatic
lipase. This diet pill is originally available by prescription. It has now been
approved by the FDA as an over the counter sale since febuary 2007. The pill
may cause frequent oily bowel movements if there is a lot of fat in the diet.

Sibutramine:

Is an anorectic or appetite suppressant, it reduces the desire to eat. The
diet pill may cause high blood pressure and may cause dry mouth, insomia,
headache, and constipation

Metformin:

If a person has diabetes this diet pill can reduce weight.

Rimonabant:

This is a recently developed diet pill and it usually acts centrally on the
brain and thus reduces appetite. They not only cause weight loss but they
prevent or reverse the metabolic effects of obesity.

Exenatide:

This drug delays gastric emptying and promotes a felling of satiety. Not all
patients experience substanial weight loss while on the diet pill. Therefore it
is recomended only for diabetic patients.

Pramlintide:

This drug also delays gastric emptying and promotes a feeling of satiety. Again
it is usually prescribed for diabetic patients.

Some diet pills have life threatening side effects. These side effects are
associated with their mechanism of action. In general stimulant carry a risk of
high blood pressure, increased heart beat, glucoma, drug addictin and insomonia.

One of the best diet pills on the market Orlistat blocks the absorption of
dietary fat, and as a result may cause oily bowel movements.

If i was to recomend Orlistat as one of the best diet pills on the market i
would say yes. At least it has the least side effects.
