Technology has made fishing much easier. Consider how in the earlier days they
had to use the trial and error method to locate fish and determine depth.Fish
finders are the best tool to use so you can find and place your boat on top of
the fish.

All fish finders use sonar to scan the water. A sound wave is sent from the
fish finder through the water forming a cone. When an object is detected, the
fish finder measures the amount of time between when the sound wave was sent
and when it bounced back to the unit and is displayed on the screen.

The portable fish finder is a solution to the fore stated problem of finding
the fish. This new technological advancement will enable fishers to fish by
their own rules on their own terms. What fisherman or woman would not like a
piece of that? Yes the portable fish finder is the fish finder of the future,
and the future is knocking on our doors.

If you are buying a fish finder, the first thing you need to consider is what
price range you can afford. When you know what your price limit is, we can
start looking at the different fish finders. Here I will try to determine what
features on fish finders that will bring you more fish and what features that
just cost money.

Would that be fixed fish finders or portable fish finders? This is perhaps one
of the most important questions you have to answer in case you are looking for
the best device to improve your catch - figuratively speaking, of course. Fish
finders are wonderful fishing tools to invest in and it does not matter if you
are fishing for a living, or doing this as a sport or simply as a way to pass
the time.

This device can aid you greatly while you are out on the water. However, with
all the models coming out, and with all those digits attached to the dollar
sign as its price, it would really do you well to do enough research before
spending all your money.

For a beginner, I would recommend to buy a more simple fish finder and then
step up to a more advanced further down the line. There are a lot of features
you have to learn on some of the more advanced fish finder. So if you are a
beginner you can save some money by buying a more simple fish finder.

Most people are happy with the LCD fish finders. CRT displays work great but
they require a lot of power and they cost a lot more. I don't think a CRT
finder give you enough value for you money. LCD finders locate the fish just as
well as the CRT finders do (without a lot of unneeded features for the average
weekend fisher).

Extensive sonar power is essential, but only if you are fishing in very deep
waters. Some fishing enthusiasts rarely go to the depths, especially if the
fish are biting in shallow waters anyway. But big fish anglers like to attack
from deep water, and so would other commercial fishermen who may be after some
bigger game.

If the latter is your case, you need to pursue your potential device's sonar
power, because this is literally the very essence of getting a fish finder.
Check specifics like: beam, cone angle and frequency.
