If you are an older woman going through menopause and gaining weight, you might be wanting or trying to loose weight. While trying to loose weight can be difficult in itself, sometimes it is made worse by saboteurs who don't want you to loose weight. Anytime you are trying to loose weight (or setting any other kind of goal) it is important that you have people around you who are supportive of your weight loose goal. It's unfortunate, but not everyone is going to support you. Even those who love you can sometimes be opposed to your loosing weight. Why some people will oppose your efforts to loose weight: Some people in your life will try to sabotage your success because they are afraid of loosing something between you once you reach your goal. If it is your spouse, they might feel threatened by your new, slimmer appearance and fear that you will look more attractive to others. Or that you might leave them for a better looking person. If the saboteur is a sister or brother, they might be afraid of loosing an eating out buddy: someone to share good food with at cafes and restaurants. A good friend may also have these fears, and may also fear that once you loose weight, you will dump them for "better" friends. Some clues to look for in a weight loose saboteur: 1. They criticize your efforts at weight loose. They criticize everything you do and the way you manage your weight loss program. 2. They offer you fatty foods. They often place your favorite, fatty foods in front of you to tempt you into eating it. 3. They wait for you to slip up. They keep a close eye on your eating activities and then pounce on you when you slip up. They will say something along the lines of "see, you can't do it." 4. They will tell you you're shallow for wanting to loose weight. They might make comments about how there are more important things in life, or that you should work on your inside instead of your outside. Don't be discouraged by these nay-sayers. They are reacting to your loosing weight out of fear. It's no good pushing them away (unless they are downright mean and nasty). Instead, try talking to them about the reasons you want to loose weight, and reassure them that your relationship with them will not change. Ask them to support you in a positive way. When you are open and honest about why you are loosing weight, and are sincerely asking them to support you, they will most likely stop trying to sabotage your weight loose goals.
