Our fathers and grandfathers used the old farmer's almanac for almost every part of their daily lives on the farm or ranch. This book was more like a tool than a book. This book told the farmers and ranchers the best times to perform certain tasks on certain days. One example is my father for instance never planted any kind of crop without first consulting this amazing little book. He also never castrated any kind of livestock with out checking the proper date and the position of the moon. This was to prevent infections and hemorrhaging of the animals for their safety. If you were, a poor old farmer and you rely on your livestock for food and part of your income throughout the year. Therefore, you are careful when you choose to work on the animals. You do not want to risk loosing even one. The old farmer's almanac uses the position of the moon, the climate and temperatures, to best, decide when the best times when things are to be, done. If you are going to plant your garden below ground like carrots, onions, potatoes then you will want to go by this book. The almanac will tell you the best days for planting these types of sprouts and bulbs. Then you will produce the best crop you have ever produced. The above ground crops will need to be, planted after the Easter freeze so check the almanac for the best planting dates for the beans, squash, and all of you above ground garden plants. This book is even great for the angler in the family. The best days are, specified in the almanac for the best fishing days as well. The book tells you when the best chances are for fishing and specifies the dates of the month. This is great and I have never had the book to fail me yet. My father and grandfather both used this little book faithfully for everything they needed to know. The book has great tips and little articles on different subject as well that are useful information.
