Had a nice walk yesterday, Sun, at the little development that is going nowhere in NE Fairfield. On the way I saw a Tennessee Warbler, female Redstart, immature Magnolia Warbler, a small guy with gray back of the head and back, no eye ring, yellow breast, calling chuk. I would have said female Common Yellowthroat but the back was a rich gray instead of brownish yellow. It was in some short weeds along the side walk, moving along in and out, giving me plenty of good looks.
At the development I saw a female Black-throated Blue, several Redstarts, male and female, Red-eyed Vireo, Yellow-bellied Sapsucker, immature Red-headed Woodpecker, Tufted Titmouse, several female Magnolia Warblers, female Canada, White-breasted Nuthatch, Wood Peewee, and all the usual. On the way back were 20 Chimney Swifts, a Kestrel, 10 or so Cedar Waxwings with some immatures, and Gold Finches. While sitting down outside back at the ranch pulling stickers off my socks and listening to the Eurasian Collared Doves(I hear them around my house all the time now, now that I know the sound) I heard a loud squawk squawk, sorta like a parrot, and looking up, what did I see? You guessed it, a ECD. Anyone ever heard them squawk? Quite contrasting from their usual coo coo coo. -- Tim Fairfield --- Please contribute your sightings to our list; it is only as good as members make it! --- Birding channel recommendation for FRS/GMRS radio use: Primary selection; channel 5/0 , alternate selection; channel 6/0 --- This mailing list is sponsored by the Iowa Ornithologists' Union.
