I birded the Mississippi River today from Keokuk to the Quad Cities.
There was some open water in Lee Co. and duck and gull numbers were good but
the
variety was low. Gulls consisted of Ring-billed (~700) and Herring (19)
only. Montrose had large groups of Common Goldeneye and Canvasback, and a
small group of Greater Scaup. The ducks at Green Bay Bottoms have vacated
the area but I did have a nice flock of flyover Greater White-fronted Geese
(heading back south!). The other good birding spot today in Lee Co. was
the Fort Madison waterfront. There wasn't too much exciting between Fort
Madison and the Quad Cities and the Quad Cities wasn't that much exciting
either. I ended the day with 16 waterfowl species. Highlights include:

Lee Co.
-----------
110 Greater White-fronted Geese (Green Bay Bottoms flyover)
2 Mute Swans (continuing at Fort Madison Amtrak station)
2 Northern Pintail
468 Canvasback (majority off Montrose)
1 Redhead
36 Ring-necked Ducks (Ft. Madison)
187 Greater Scaup (majority at Ft. Madison)
1 Bufflehead
3440 Common Goldeneye
128 Common Mergansers
10 A. White Pelicans (below L & D 19)
3 Great Blue Herons
1 Killdeer (Montrose)

Scott Co.
--------------
5 Cackling Geese at Credit Island
1 Northern Shoveler at Credit Island
1 Peregrine Falcon (adult along Hwy 67 in LeClaire)

Good birding...
