Took a trip out to Colo today, some Pectoral Sandpipers were probably the newest thing out there.
Anderson Lake northeast of Jewel still has slash burning going on, and there didn't appear to be anything new to report there. And Little Wall Lake is experiencing boaters epidemic so the loons that had been present have scuppered with just about everything else. Bjorkbodi Marsh of note was a single Loggerhead Shrike that tracked ahead of me before flying across the road into a tree that was part of a fence row. Ada-Hayden, another wherein the reservoir birds have dispersed for less active clines. On Marshes A and B at Ada Hayden were numerous American Coots, teal (both Green-winged and Blue-winged), Tree Swallows and Northern Shoveler. Of note was a single individual of a Yellowlegs sp, after consulting Sibley I think it was a Lesser Yellowlegs, as it looked to be less dark than what the text would suggest...However, I'm ready to be corrected by those in the know. --- Please contribute your sightings to our list; it is only as good as members make it! --- Birding channel recommendation for FRS/GMRS radio use: Primary selection; channel 5/0 , alternate selection; channel 6/0 --- This mailing list is sponsored by the Iowa Ornithologists' Union.
