I made a quick run through Chichaqua this morning looking for Sandhill
Cranes and longspurs. Struck out on the former, but did have three
Smith's Longspurs along 118th. Between the burned prairie and weedy corn
stubble, it looks like a promising area but all I had was a brief look at
the three Smith's before they flew out of sight. The morning highlight
was a pair of Wilson's Snipe doing their courtship thing at Engeldinger
Marsh. Lots of winnowing and twittering, which I'd never experienced
before. Pretty neat.

Yesterday, I vistied the Kellerton lek with the Armstrong's. We only had
eight Prairie Chickens, but didn't arrive until 8:30. Also had two
Northern Bobwhite near Diagonal. We had fifteen species of waterfowl
(plus a Coot with a white body and brown head) at Green Valley Lake in
Union county before the storms moved in and ended the outing. Later,
Eugene and Eloise reported seven Forster's Terms at Badger Creek Lake.
