Hello Birders,
Today at about 1pm I went to Luton WMA South to look for the Cinnamon Teal
reported yesterday. After looking as best I could from the road and not
seeing it, I decided to walk in with my rubber boots on to see if it was
hiding. Sure enough I did come across the teal which soon flew. Thankfully
it came back-I saw it fly back into the same pond as I was headed back to
the car.

I never did see it from the car, so it may be necessary to walk in to see
it, unless you get lucky. The teal was in the first pond to the east of
the parking lot along 260th st.

The directions on the Iowa Ornithologist Union website are incorrect. They
lead you to the north unit, but this bird was at the south unit which is 1
mile south of Luton on K42 and east on 260th street.

After viewing the teal I had lunch in the parking lot and watched an
amazing dust devil show off to the east of the wma. I saw dozens of huge
devils move across the fields. Many likely reached a couple hundred feet
into the air! To see some photos of the dust devils visit my photo
page-the link is below my name.
