Went to the flooded fields near Fairfield where we saw so many shorebirds two
weeks ago, also to Cone Marsh and the flooded field across from Swan Lake at
Hawkeye Wildlife Area. They were all quite full of water, but there was not a
single shorebird anywhere.

We saw two Great Egrets at the flooded fields near Fairfield. A pair of
Sandhill Cranes at Cone Marsh at the northwest end, along with 10 or so Great
Blue Herons. A partial leucistic young Mourning Dove, mostly bright white with
a little black on the top of the wings and back accompanied by a parent at Lone
Tree. A female Wood Duck with 13 ducklings close in tow at Swan Lake at
Hawkeye. A Red-shouldered Hawk on the way to a futile search for shorebirds at
Sandy Beach on Lake MacBride(there was no Sandy Beach, just water).
