Raptor Migration Count Observers - Grant County, WI
Location: Eagle Valley Nature Preserve, Glen Haven, WI (Grant County in
southwest WI, along the Mississippi River)
We need sharp-eyed, diligent raptor observers to tally the fall
migration daily from September 5 through November 7. Standardized
counts were performed from 1994 through 1996 and again in 1998, 2000,
and 2002. The objective is to obtain a more thorough understanding of
regional raptor population trends and the dynamics of non-coastal,
Midwestern raptor migration by continuing this monitoring program.
Two observers, a primary and a secondary, man the site each day.
Primary observers must have good raptor identification experience;
secondary observers should have some familiarity with the raptor species
likely to be encountered. Both need good observation and recording
abilities. Primary observers are responsible for tallying daily totals,
double-checking data, and posting results. Observers can serve from one
to four days per week (four is the maximum, to prevent observer
fatigue). Call or write if you have any questions or would like more
information.
Pay rate: primary - $80/day; secondary - $50/day. Room and cooking
facilities will be provided on-site when on duty.
Applicants can send a letter of interest stating pertinent experience
and a resume with 2-3 references to:
