Subject: Re: [ia-bird] Grape Jelly, Orioles & Bees

Regarding Rick's post about grape jelly:

The past week or so, my grape jelly has attracted moths during the night. Today before sunrise, I was amazed to see 30-40 moths either on the jelly, or vying for position to get to the jelly. (actually, it freaked my out a little)

Once again, proving if in doubt, use grape jelly, something always comes to grape jelly.

Now, about those grackles.....

Good birding,

The oriole visits to our grape jelly feeders are really down, and the bee visits are really up. This does not surprise me.

What does surprise me is that a good scoop of jelly can turn from, well, jelly to a odd gummy stuff containing about half the volume in a days time.

I cannot understand how the bees could be doing this.
