IA Birders:

List subscribers probably are aware that a number of new field guides to N.A. birds have been published in recent years. But a brand new field guide - in a brand new and much improved format - is on the horizon.

The Crossley ID Guide: Eastern Birds is well worth scouting out. You can get a taste of the excellent new features here: http://press.princeton.edu/titles/9384.html . Be sure to view the sample pages from the book provided in the middle of this webpage. When you completely fill your computer screen with the spectacular panels of sharply focused photos of each species in numerous poses, both near and far, you might be quite pleased.

Although listed at $35 on the Princeton University Press webpage, I looked around (on these webpages) and found a link to Barnes and Noble Booksellers. I then made a pre-publication purchase at B & N for just $23. Can't wait to get my hands on this exceptional new multi-photo format for each species.

The only other field guide I've ever seen that used the layered photo approach was a field guide to birds of the Galapagos Islands - but Crossley's field guide far surpasses that one in beauty and utility.

Good birding.
