Did a sloppy run around in the county today. Nothing overly spectacular to note. A Solitary Sandpiper was on a flooded patch north of Bradgate. I didn't check the Prothonotary Warbler in Bradgate...but the area that they've been found in is classic Prothonatary habitat being consistently flooded forest with some older growth and significant understory and lianas.
A Pied-billed Grebe was diving in a flooded field East of the Ottosen Potholes near the Rutland church. A male Scarlet Tanager was at the Bradgate Area (probably the same that has been noted in the previous weeks by myself and Dr. Dinsmore). A Yellow-bellied Sapsucker in South Rutland was a surprise to find. This is the third different location for this species along the West Fork of the Des Moines River this season...which I think it could possibly suggest breeding activity along the riparian zone.
