This morning, Jim Moreland, Tyler Harms, and I located (from the air) a small Great Egret nesting colony near Colfax. They were associating with a few Great Blue Herons in an area that looks difficult to reach from the ground. On our wide survey of central Iowa wetlands we also noticed American White Pelican flocks at Otter Creek Marsh and Upper Pine Lake and 2 Trumpeter Swans at Snake Creek Marsh. Big white birds are definitely easy to see from the air!
