Last weekend was the annual Hawk Watch Weekend at Effigy Mounds National
Monument near Harper's Ferry (Allamakee County). Both days were mostly
sunny with a light wind and highs in the upper 50s (although it clouded
over around 3pm Saturday). Despite this beautiful weather, not many
raptors were moving through. Here are the weekend's totals:

Turkey Vulture - 82
Nothern Goshawk - 1
Sharp-shinned Hawk - 2
Cooper's Hawk - 3
Red-tailed Hawk - 19 (including 5 immatures banded and released)
Broad-winged Hawk - 1
Bald Eagle - 24 (17 adult, 7 immature)
Northern Harrier - 1
Peregrine Falcon - 1
American Kestrel - 1
Unknown Accipiter - 1
Unknown Buteo - 3
Unknown Raptor - 3 (all from Saturday afternoon after it became 100%
cloudy)

The low count notwithstanding, it was great to see everyone and spend the
day appreciating a little slice of the fall migration. Thanks to everyone
who came out and look forward to seeing you next year!
