Birding primarily at the wetlands at Mt. Sterling, Iowa and the
surrounding farm ponds/roads in Van Buren County the following birds were
observed:

DC Cormorants 40 or so
Great Egrets 8 
Northern Pintails 20
Northern Shovelers 6
Coots 10
Mallards 5
Gadwall 4
Killdeer 2
Great Blue Heron 6
Greater Yellowlegs 18-- Some were calling, fun to hear
Few Lesser Yellowlegs
Snipe-6
Pied Billed Grebes 3
Ring Necked Ducks 4
Am White Pelican 1
Lots of Am Goldfinch
Lot of Red Wing Blackbirds
Am Kestral 3
Red Tail Hawk several 
Bald Eagle 3 
Northern Flicker 1
Cedar Waxwings 20 or so
Turkey Vultures lots
And the bird of the day for me-- A Red Shouldered Hawk who announced its
presence over the wetland with that shrill call and gave us very
cooperative views as it circled the wetlands for a few turns.
Noticeably absent from view were the 2 Trumpeter Swans and their cygnets
that have been observed at this location.
