Went to Bjorkboda and surrounding areas. Not a whole lot of activity. The Trumpeter Swan family that has been there this year have finally split up. Though it looks like the a pair of the young have gotten themselves and adopted brethen in a Am. White Pelican (possibly the same one I've seen for the last couple of weeks).
On the flooded pasture a ~mile SE of Bjorkboda 7 Long-billed Dowitchers were feeding with a dozen Greater Yellowlegs and a half dozen Killdeer with at least a pair of Wilson's Snipe (though likely more). Another three or four Snipe were on Bjorkboda proper. On Bjorkboda there was a small mixed flock of Pied-billed Grebe, Am. Coots, Blue-winged Teal, Redhead and one possible Scaup (still waiting for confirmation on that). A Belted Kingfisher was also present, and the adult T-swans are still patrolling the South side of the marsh. It was another big push day for Red-tails as there seemed to be three of four every mile or so. --- Please contribute your sightings to our list; it is only as good as members make it! --- Birding channel recommendation for FRS/GMRS radio use: Primary selection; channel 5/0 , alternate selection; channel 6/0 --- This mailing list is sponsored by the Iowa Ornithologists' Union.
