Jim Moreland and I visited both reservoirs today and found lots of ice and a lower diversity of birds than in previous weeks. We saw 17 species of waterfowl at Red Rock (including 7 Trumpeter Swans at Roberts Creek L. and 1 below the dam), 2 juv Glaucous Gulls, and 1 juv Black-legged Kittiwake. At Saylorville we found 2 Thayer's Gulls, and there was a single Common Loon at Big Creek L. As previously mentioned, the adult male Long-tailed Duck continued late this afternoon at Ada Hayden Park in Ames.
