I did some birding around SW Des Moines this morning. The Hallett gravel
pit on the west side of the interstate (at the bypass exit) has had good
numbers of mergansers all week but the traffic has been too heavy for me to
stop on my way home from work. I stopped today and there weren't that many
birds. Apparently they had moved to Raccoon River Park. Some birds seen
today include:

Hallett pit/Raccoon River Park:
    - 91 Common Goldeneye
    - 260 Common Merganser
    - 13 Hooded Merganser
    - 1 American Coot

Walnut Woods SP had 1 Brown Creeper and 1 Pileated Woodpecker, along with
several Eastern Bluebirds and 100+ American Robins.

Water Works Park had 1 Pileated Woodpecker and 200+ robins.

Gray's Lake had 3 Herring Gulls and 2 Hooded Mergansers.

Good birding...
