I have been off the list serve for a few days while I visited relatives and an ill friend on the quad-cities. We did get down to Burlington Saturday on a very cloudy misty day and then across the river into Illinois. At Crapo Park in the middle of Burlington City there were about 30 Turkey Vultures sitting on park benches and roaming about the grass around the lagoon. They flew from the benches before I could get a photo. Quite and interesting sight.
In the Gladstone area of Illinois there were several thousand Snow Geese. Also other waterfowl such as Canvasbacks, Redheads, Bufflehead, Lesser Scaup, etc. Got to see very good views of a Red-shouldered on Concord Street in Davenport. Have a decent photo of him on the on the Telephone wire in the gallery below: http://larryd.smugmug.com/Nature/Winter-Iowa/15076824_dqpGw#1207905493_VGbcD Larry Dau --- Please contribute your sightings to our list; it is only as good as members make it! --- Birding channel recommendation for FRS/GMRS radio use: Primary selection; channel 5/0 , alternate selection; channel 6/0 --- This mailing list is sponsored by the Iowa Ornithologists' Union.
