Three of us had the privilege of spotting a short-eared owl in our neighborhood
in Story County,
just west of hwy 69 on E-15, which is 110th Street. We spotted it on a fence
post next to the road about 4:30 p.m.
While my husband and I were checking out birds at Little Wall Lake, our son
watched the owl dive low in our pasture after a cat, three different times.
When we returned from Little Wall Lake we found the owl in a tall tree on the
edge of our grove. When crows flushed it from that tree, it flew a short
distance to our cottonwood where I was able to scope it for awhile. What a
great sight! Unfortunately, the camera battery died while I was photographing
the bird.
Rejoicing,
Sue in NW Story County
