Ghost Bird: Part of Sustainability Film Series '11 at Bell Museum
This Thursday, March 17, at 7 p.m., Bell Museum will host the local
premiere of Ghost Bird, a documentary exploring how the possible rediscovery
of
an extinct giant woodpecker helped a small Arkansas town reverse its
fortunes and launched birders and scientists on a wild search for the "Lord
God
Bird."

Panel discussion will follow the film, featuring our expert guests:
Jim Fitzpatrick is director of Carpenter Nature Center in Hastings, and
happens to be one of the first people who spotted the illusive bird in 2005.

Carrol Henderson has been with the Minnesota Department of Natural
Resources Non-Game Wildlife Program since 1977 and brings his expertise and
passion for birding along with his broad knowledge of the relationship between
species extinction and habitat loss.

Ann Kessen is an avid birder and teacher, and the president of the
Minnesota Ornithologists' Union.

Bell Museum will be bringing out its exceptionally rare Ivory-billed
woodpecker specimen to be displayed for this event!!!
