Hi All, On Wednesday three of us wandered southeast Iowa through Des Moines, Louisa, Van Buren, and Lee Counties and came up with 99 species. There were 23 waterfowl species, including Ross' Goose and Trumpeter Swan. Other notable birds were Horned Grebe, American Golden Plover, Rough-winged Swallow, Pileated Woodpecker, Red-breasted nuthatch, Winter Wren, Bionaparte's Gull, and Northern Mockingbird. Big misses included Barred and Screech owls, Red-headed Woodpecker, Ruby-crowned Kinglet, Yellow-rumped Warbler, and four sparrows, White-crowned, Vesper, Savannah, and Chipping.
