I birded a loop through several SE Iowa counties today.  Interesting birds
included:

 

Henry County

1 Northern Shrike - N side of 275th St., 1/4 mile E of Franklin Ave.

2 Snow Buntings - Hickory Ave., 1/4 mile N of 160th St.

1 light-morph Rough-legged Hawk

 

Jefferson County

2 Snow Buntings, 10 Lapland Longspurs w/ Horned Larks - 110th St., E of
Cedar Ave.

2 Lapland Longspurs - 240th St., E of Redwood Ave.

1 Short-eared Owl - S of 155th St, 1/4 mile W of Jasmine Ave. (appeared at
5:20 p.m. - thanks Tim!)

40 Ring-necked Pheasants - same field as SE Owl

 

Van Buren County

2 Eurasian Collared-Doves - Hwy 1, 3/4 mile N of Birmingham

2 Lapland Longspurs w/ Horned Larks - 115th St., 1/4 mile E of Quince Ave.

3 light-morph Rough-legged Hawks

1 dark-morph Red-tailed Hawk

 

Wapello County

15 Lapland Longspurs w/ Horned Larks - NE intersection 180th St. and Farson
Rd.

1 dark-morph Red-tailed Hawk

 

I also saw several small flocks of robins, bluebirds, and meadowlarks today.
