I spent the first part of the morning on a bird hike with Tom Lawson as
the lead, following the cleared trails at Voas. Ray Harden and I continued
to about 11 am after the others gave up on warblers - too windy and chilly
for them (the warblers, that is). After Ray left I spent another two or so
hours checking pond/wetland areas in the northeast part.

Here's my personal list for the day, in rough order of sighting:

Great-tailed grackle: 2 or more males
Chipping sparrow (song)
American goldfinch
Red-winged blackbird
Common yellowthroat
Brown thrasher (song)
Ring-necked pheasant (call)
Field sparrow (song): two, judging from songs
Red-bellied woodpecker (call)
American crow (call)
Northern cardinal
House wren
Blue jay
Yellow warbler
Empidonax flycatchers (Acadian & yellow-bellied ruled out)
Ruby-crowned kinglet
Turkey vulture
Swainson's thrush
Tree swallow
Tennessee warbler (song)
Eastern meadowlark (song)
Eastern bluebird male (box 11A)
Greater yellowlegs: 3 or more
Solitary sandpiper
Least sandpiper: 8 in a group
Canada goose
Baltimore oriole
Yellow-headed blackbird: 6 males in two different areas
American coot: 3
Mallard:2
Blue-winged teal: 4 to 8 seen
Lesser yellowlegs: at least one
Song sparrow
Short-billed dowitcher: one
Sedge wren: one
unidentified rail, probably yellow rail: three
Downy woodpecker
unidentified Buteo hawk, probably red-tail
