After viewing warblers with James Huntington, I came back to the park with
3 other birders. We saw an unusual bird with a group of scarlet tanagers.
The bird had a light, yellowish lime green head and body with black wings
and wing bars. It had the posture and beak of a tanager but definitely
was not a scarlet or summer tanager. It is possible that it was a female
Western Tanager although the head was not as drab as the field guide
pictures I looked at. The bird was very close (20 feet) and at eye level
or lower. We were able to view it for at least a full minute. I went
back to the area later in the morning but was unable to find it again.
