Hi All, I walked around the DMACC campus in Ankeny this morning for a couple of hours. It was hard to get out of the open wind, but in the times that I did, I managed to find a few birds. On the lake... 1 Wood Duck 128 Mallards 4 black (domestic) Mallards 6 Northern Shoveler 1 Green-winged Teal 3 Pied-billed Grebes Elsewhere, 1 House Wren (in a pine tree with a small flock of sparrows) 2 Common Yellowthroats (both first fall females) 8 sp. of sparrows, including -1 CLAY-COLORED -9 Lincoln's -14 Swamp -2 White-throated, 1 Harris's, 1 White-crowned 3 late INDIGO BUNTINGS (a female and 2 first year birds associating together) 1200+ Icterids, namely 900+ Brown-headed Cowbirds Alas, I couldn't flush a Le Conte's/Nelson's Sparrow. Perhaps on a less windy day. (Still no Juncos for me.... shhhh). Danny Akers Ankeny [email protected]
