Thanks to the fast posting of the east of Ames Snowy Owl this morning,
Barbara and I were pleased to see it. These are great looking birds.
Later at Ada Hayden in Ames we saw, among the usual suspects:
Trumpeter Swans (3)
Cackling Geese (5 +)
Snow Goose (1)

About 3:30 this afternoon at half-frozen Maffit Lake, easily visible from
the west drivein, in addition to the numerous Canadas and Mallards were:
19 Trumpeter Swans (12 adults, 1 with a red neck band, and 7 juveniles)
Common Mergansers (many)
Common Goldeneyes (a few)
Hooded Mergansers (at least 2)
Wigeons (a few)
Black Duck (1)
Gadwalls (20 or so)
Wigeons (6)
Scaup (lesser, I think) 6-8
Redheads (2)
Coots (10 or so)

It will be fun to check out Maffit tomorrow morning and see what has
changed.
