Birders,

A blustery day made finding birds quite tricky on New Year's Day. The Carroll
CBC found 40 species along with 6 Count Week species.

As previously mentioned, the highlight was probably finding the 3 "tough" owls:
Northern Saw-whet, Short-eared, and Long-eared (ZERO of any of the 3 common
species).

A female Hooded Merganser was a good bird for this count (there was a bit of
open water on Swan Lake).

I won't elaborate on misses - there are obviously plenty of those with only 40
total species found.

Count week highlights include Snowy Owl, Merlin, Rusty Blackbird, and Pine
Siskin.

We had 5 all day participants, 2 half day, and 3 feeder watchers.

Bird on...
