At about 11am today (1/8/12), we saw this big beautiful snowy owl on a
light post on Cherry Valley Rd. just west of the airport in Cedar Rapids.
This road is a gravel road just beyond the airport off Wright Bros. Blvd.
It is opposite the airport premises, where lights mark the western end of
the runway. According to the security guard who questioned us about our
presence and stopping on the Walford Rd. (where the owl was first spotted
this morning), this owl has been in this area for some time since she has
seen it on or near the fence every day when going to work. It seems to
prefer perching on the light post off the airport property at the end of
the runway, which is where we saw it. After posing for pictures by Jim and
Sharon Scheib, it flew west over the hilltop out of sight and we did not
relocate it. We went down the next road to the west (Tissel Hollow) and
around the block. The owl evidently knows the area well. The owl was
originally seen on Walford Rd. just beyond the airport on the west
 side.
