Lena and I checked Red Rock today and found very little open water and disappointing numbers/diversity of waterbirds. There were 13 waterfowl species including Greater White-fronted Goose and Red-breasted Merganser, the continuing American White Pelican flock, and a Yellow-rumped Warbler. I am amazed by the continuing numbers of Cackling Geese in central Iowa this winter - there were 82 today at Ada Hayden, >100 at Red Rock, and smaller numbers with almost every large Canada Goose flock I encountered.
