Greetings from the President: I have just opened a letter addressed to the Iowa Ornithologists' Union in reference to input on the Iowa Wetland Management District. Requests is being made for input from us as a group/individuals about the a comprehensive planning process to determine FUTURE management the Iowa Wetland Management District.
It is unfortunate timing but I will be out of state, country, and possibly mind until February 26, 2012 so I will be unable to provide much input. However, I believe that there are many of you who are much more knowledgeable than I am on this subject. The entire project and opportunities for input is listed at the following website http://www.fws.gov/midwest/planning/iowawetlands/index.html I believe it is very important for the IOU as an organization as well as each of us individually to become acquainted with what is going on. I can be reached via email [email protected] but probably some discussion via IA-Bird listserve would be as efficient as anything. I am sure there will be varying opinions on what is going to happen but most of all we need to be proactive on such a major issue. The SCOPING period begins 1/30/2012 and lasts for 30 days. Please check out the website as well as locations where meetings will be held during mid February.
