I was at Hawkeye WA around 1:00 today. I went to Babcock Access and walked
east along the river and up flew a huge flock of geese, 300-400, circled
and landed again. I got closer and could barely make out with my
binoculars that they weren't Canada. They were brown with orange feet,
white under coverts, and when the flock flew their calls was higher and
faster than Canada's. I'm assuming they are Greater White-fronted Geese.
Where they are is hard to get to. It's right where the river is flowing
into the still frozen lake, between Babcock and Sand point. Maybe you can
see them with a scope from across the lake off Amana Rd.
