Jim Sinclair and I did a big day today which I will post a summary of tomorrow.
One species which might be of interest locally and which we were not at all
expecting to find was a small flock of White-winged Crossbills. These birds
were in the large pine grove behind the Polk City Casey's. Both times that I
heard them we were in the forest playing a screech-owl tape, and they seemed to
approach, but did not come all the way in and we never did see them. There are
a number of trees with medium sized cones in that grove--not ideal sized but
possibly enough to hold their attention.
