This mid-morning, (Saturday) Francis Moore and I enjoyed a walk on the
dike to the eagle nest at Otter Creek Marsh in Tama Co. Most of the
waterfowl were collected near the eagle nest which is about a mile from
the east parking lot. Highlights of the 50 or so species we identified.
Snipe - many singles and flocks
Sandhill Cranes - 20+ lost count
Snow geese - 1500 + , a cloud
Ross's 4 - need a good scope
Whitefronted - 500+
Trumpeter Swans - 4 - couldn't see the legs to look for stainless steel
bands
Sandpipers
Pectoral - 8
Least - 2
Lesser Yellowlegs- 2
Greater Yellowlegs - 3
Tree Swallows - 6
E. Phoebe -1
Rusty Blackbirds - 7
DC Cormorant - 1
Blue winged Teal - have arrived in numbers
Pintails - still good numbers - what a great looking duck
Divers - not many
Otter Creek Park - 6 Miles NE of Toledo
Couldn't believe the heavy wind damage to trees from last summer

Nothing on the lake.
Big Marsh - yesterday
Low water - the manager will not be pumping water into the marsh this
spring
Good mud and habitat for longpsurs but nothing doing. Spent my time
checking out the new addition east of HWY 14. and walking the wooded
sections. Turtle City -
Blandings - 7, 5 on big ones on one log
Painteds - 23 on one log
Spiny softshells - 3 big females, each the size of a tire
82 degrees - glad the wind was blowing.
