Birders, Ashley and I took a trip to Titonka to visit family today. We made a few stops along the way with the below highlights from the day:
5 Bonaparte's Gulls and an FOY Purple Martin at Little Wall Lake in Hamilton Co. Melanistic squirrel species in Jewell. It appeared to be a melanistic Fox Squirrel as there was a reddish ting to the pelage on the belly. 14 species of waterfowl at Big Wall Lake 8 Norther Harriers on the trip including one in my parents' yard in rural Kossuth Co. FOY Greater Yellowlegs, 12 species of waterfowl consisting mainly of Green-winged Teal, Gadwall, and Northern Shovelers, and FOY Spring Peepers at Union Slough NWR Other than the high winds, a nice day to be outside! Take care, Tyler Ames, Story Co. --- Please contribute your sightings to our list; it is only as good as members make it! --- Birding channel recommendation for FRS/GMRS radio use: Primary selection; channel 5/0 , alternate selection; channel 6/0 --- This mailing list is sponsored by the Iowa Ornithologists' Union.
