I visited Saylorville this morning and was happy to see the water level had
dropped, producing mud flats at Jester where there were approximately 600
shorebirds of 13 species. Highlights were 4 Willets, plus my first Semi
Plovers, Semi Sandpiper, Long-billed Dowitchers, and Stilt Sandpiper. In the
woods I had 2 Broad-winged Hawks, 6 Orange-crowned Warbers, and single Northern
Waterthrush, Yellow-throated Warbler, and Northern Parula, plus Chimney Swift
over the lake.
At Errington Marsh, the ibis was still present in the same spot. A female
Great-tailed Grackle was building a nest one pool to the south and a Green
Heron was at a pond on the south side of Ankeny.
