Forgot to mention that I saw several dead American White Pelicans at New Lake
in Woodbury today.  One individual had a black oily looking spot where it would
sit in the water.  It was SITTING (with legs extended forward) on the shore
trying to clean the stuff off.  Half the bill was black from the attempts to
clean itself.  It seem very unsteady and had to use its wings repeatedly to
keep its balance.

It would suggest that somehow the pelicans got into something that harmed them
and I am unsure if it is a local problem or not.  Whom might be the best
person/organization to report this to?

God Bless,

Subject: [ia-bird] Saylorville today.

This afternoon at Saylorville I found a subadult Neotropic Cormorant and 3
Marbled Godwits off Jester.

Jim Moreland reports seeing 3 Killdeer broods in central Iowa this week, all of
which must have been initiated in late March, and I found a nest in early April
at Dunbar Slough with an incomplete clutch. I don't think its a big surprise
that this species nested early this year...
