One of the many benefits of membership in the Iowa Ornithologists' Union is
the ability to showcase your bird photography. Just completed is the module
for the rare bird photo gallery
(http://iowabirds.org/Birds/RareBirdPhotos.aspx). These photos will be
available for viewing for one year. I have transferred those from the past
year that were on the old site and added a couple from Tucker taken this
spring, but I am sure there are a few others out there. To upload your
photos, login and go to "Upload Photos" under Member Services
(http://iowabirds.org/MemberServices/UploadPhotos.aspx).

The second part of photo content on our website is the species gallery. Did
you know that clicking on a species in the Iowa checklist
(http://iowabirds.org/Checklists/Default.aspx) gives you more information
about that species such as the counties where it has been recorded and the
most likely times of year to see it (based on field reports data)? Each
species also has a placeholder for photos which can help serve as an on-line
photo guide. It would be especially good to get photos of birds of both
sexes as well as varying ages when such distinctions may be helpful. To see
a simple example, click on Northern Cardinal in the Iowa Checklist. The
success of this requires the participation of many of you, so when the
weather is ugly start thinking about sharing some of your talents.
Instructions and the upload form are found on the second tab of the Upload
Photos page.

The third part of the Upload Photos form shows the photos you have already
uploaded and allows you to edit the captions for those.

I know there are a lot of IOU members who are great photographers as well
and I am looking forward to watching as this develops. If you are a
photographer but not yet an IOU member, please join today and help with the
project.

The Iowa birding community thanks you.
